Runners at this year’s Boston Marathon will have a new on-course fueling option, thanks to Legal Sea Foods. The restaurant chain will sponsor a “Chowder Zone” at mile 20 of the race, dishing up “steaming-hot cups of ocean-fresh goodness” just before runners tackle the infamous Heartbreak Hill.

“For years, Legal Sea Foods has been a destination for hungry runners converging on Boston during marathon weekend,” the chain said in a statement. “Now, those same runners can enjoy our world-famous chowder during the marathon itself.”

The statement said that Legal Sea Foods expected to serve 600 gallons of its New England Clam Chowder during the race. Also on offer: Rhode Island Red Clam Chowder, Fish Chowder, and a “Mystery Cup”—hot, seafood-based chowder of unknown provenance.

The chowders will be available in paper cones or sourdough bread bowls.

“Packed with chunks of fresh seafood, cream, herbs, and performance-enhancing sodium,” the statement continued, “Legal Sea Foods’ chowders will give Boston Marathon runners the boost they need to conquer Heartbreak Hill and to finish the race strong.”
