Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Pushes to Ban Women’s Running, Citing Uterine Health
/Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the anti-vaccine crusader and former third-party candidate for president, announced yesterday that he is launching a movement to ban women from running, citing “clear risks to their reproductive organs.”
Kennedy, a scion of the Kennedy family turned pariah, has a history of spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories on everything from wifi to Covid. President-elect Donald Trump has spoken of giving Kennedy a prominent role in his administration, saying RFK could be empowered to “go wild on health.”
This is the first time Kennedy has ever addressed women’s athletics at all, and it remains unclear when, or why, he decided to target women’s running in particular. It is also unclear who would enforce such a ban and how they would do it. Kennedy’s brief statement yesterday addressed none of those questions, though he did suggest at one point that women runners might choose to “self-ban.”
“The risks to women who run are clear—particularly to their uteruses,” Kennedy said. “There is ample evidence for that online.”
Kennedy offered no specifics to support that claim, though he alluded to “elites” and “big business” uniting to suppress such information.
“There are plenty of other ways for women to stay fit and healthy that don’t put their uteruses at risk,” he said. “Swimming in non-fluoridated water, for instance, or chopping wood.”
Reached for comment, President-elect Trump delivered a 34-minute stream-of-consciousness statement that veered from immigrants to “taxing foreign nations at levels never seen before” to cryptocurrency before concluding that “the Blacks love me.”
