Kipchoge Still Waiting for Age-Group Award from Berlin Marathon

Eliud Kipchoge, who won last weekend’s Berlin Marathon in a world record time of 2:01:39, is still waiting for his age-group award from the race, Dumb Runner has learned.
“Nope,” Kipchoge said Saturday, after peering into his mailbox. “Still nothing.”
“Nope. Still nothing.”
Normally, age-group awards are handed out during a ceremony on race day. This year, Kipchoge said, organizers said the awards would be mailed to winners. They blamed a logistical snafu for the delay.
Kipchoge, 33, handily took top honors in his age group, 18—34.
“I am very happy with my performance (at Berlin), obviously,” he said. “But not to have my age-group award is a disappointment. Berlin always does nice awards. They’re these little plaques, and you get an official certificate as well.”
Kipchoge said he’d already cleared a space on his mantel for the award. For now, though, all he can do is wait.
“Maybe it will arrive tomorrow,” he said. "If not tomorrow, then perhaps the day after. The marathon is a great teacher, and it has taught me the value of patience.”
He paused, took a deep breath, and looked to the horizon.
“I wonder if they could give me a tracking number.”
