When Jane Spencer decided late last year to undertake a running streak in 2022, she knew it wouldn’t be easy. And it hasn’t been—the 39-year-old mother of three says she often struggles to find the time to run.

Today, however, Spencer is celebrating. More than two weeks into 2022, she’s run every single day of the year except for three.

“It’s hard,” said Spencer. “I’m not going to lie. But you know, this running streak isn’t just for me. It’s for my kids, to teach them the importance of hard work and perseverance—of making a commitment and more or less sticking to it.”

For Spencer, that’s meant hitting the streets to run at least one mile every day of 2022, except for January 5, January 11, and January 12, so far.

“She’s a rock star,” said Frank Drebbin, Spencer’s husband. “Every day she gets herself out there for her run, no matter what, unless the weather is way too bad or her schedule just won’t allow it or she’s feeling sick.”

Spencer herself downplayed her feat.

“I’m proud of what I’ve done, but I’m no hero,” she said. “It’s just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other. Every day.”

She paused.

“Give or take.”
